‘Wipeout’ participates dead after completing obstacle course

A participant in the TBS reboot of “Wipeout” has died after completing the show’s obstacle course.

A male participant needed help and was used by emergency rescuers after tackling the course on Wednesday, sources close to the production told The Post. The participant was on stage in Santa Clarita, California – but not on the course itself – when he reportedly experienced chest pain before noon, and doctors used a defibrillator on him.

Paramedics were called and he was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Participants undergo medical examinations prior to filming, and the show, which is not yet aired on the network, has paramedics and doctors on site as well as a security producer.

Production was paused Thursday and Friday, and the show was heading into a pre-planned week for the Thanksgiving holiday. Production is scheduled to resume some time after the break.

No further information about the participant was released.

“We are devastated to have heard of his passing and our deepest sympathy goes out to the family,”

; a TBS spokesman told The Post in a statement.

The show is distributed by Endemol Shine North America, which told The Post: “We give our heartfelt condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them at this time.”

The revival hosts Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Camille Kostek – also known as Rob Gronkowski’s girlfriend – as well as pro wrestler and actress John Cena and comedian Nicole Byer (“Nailed It!”). The series, originally aired on ABC from 2008 to 2014, features athletic competitors navigating a series of obstacles on a track.

“Wipeout will feature twists and new elements that will push participants’ athleticism and determination to even greater extremes, all the while delivering some wildly epic failures!” reads the show’s official description. “Each game is three rounds, each round featuring a jaw-dropping, multi-stage obstacle course with several strategy and decision points designed to further challenge competitors’ endurance and deliver fun and surprising releases. And of course the iconic staple for the show – the big balls! – returns with revenge. ”

TBS has not announced a premiere date for the show, but it will not be until some time later in 2021.
