Wintry moves with extreme cold temperatures to follow

Tonight, temperatures are going to play a crucial role in the type of precipitation that occurs overnight and early tomorrow morning.

Starting between 9 and 11 pm snow will spread southeast across the Tri-States. A light dusting up to half an inch with slightly higher amounts in localized areas is possible. However, a hot front will lift northeast overnight bringing strong southwesterly winds causing temperatures to rise overnight. Freezing rain and a wintry mix are going to be a concern overnight.

Temperatures are expected to warm up above freezing early morning morning, meaning a transition to all rain is possible. Elevated surfaces, overpasses, and bridges will be slower to warm above freezing, when it comes into contact with those surfaces. If you're on the roads, drive with caution.

Highs will be reached in the morning, in the low 30s. Rain / wintry mix will come to an end between 6 and 8 am. A cold front will slide through mid-morning causing temperatures to quickly drop. Could see about a 1

0 to 20-degree temperature drop in a few hours after the cold front passes. A few scattered snow showers will be possible for the rest of the day, if any additional accumulation will occur.

Northwesterly winds gusting up to 30 mph with help drop temperatures to the single digits and negatives Tuesday morning with wind chills 10 to 15 below.

A slight chance of snow Tuesday afternoon and early evening with highs remaining in the single digits and low teens.

Overnight and Wednesday morning temperatures will drop to around -14 below with wind chills ranging from 30 to 45 below zero. Highs throughout the day will struggle to warm up above zero. Record low and coldest high temperature could be set or at least very close

Wind Chill Watch: Clark, Hancock, Lee, McDonough, Scotland County will go in Effects from Sunday afternoon through Thursday morning.
