Is Microsoft going to open up the Surface Book family to explicitly support PC gamers? Any move to do so might dilute the messaging around the X-Box's "Project Scarlett" announced at E3 2019, but there are signs that the Surface Book 3 will be an option for mobile gamers.

The Surface Book machines are pitched at the high-end market – if you're looking for an 'all-rounder' & nbsp; directly from Microsoft then the Surface Laptop is probably worth investigating. By virtue of those high specifications there's already an element of gaming in the materials used and the hardware specifications.

While the first iteration of the book was weak in terms of graphical support, the additional option of Nvidia's GeForce GTX1050 for the Core i7 models of the Surface Book 2 provided solid levels of support, albeit quite at the cutting edge. This was not the only accommodation. The subtle addition of support for the X-Box controller with the Surface Book 2 allowed a better interface for gamers.

The Surface Book 2 contains the technology as a receiver, and there was enough power in the machine to run some of the more challenging graphically sumptuous gaming titles.

While Microsoft has not announced details on a follow-up Surface Book, the presumptively titled Surface Book 3 is expected to launch later this year with the next generation of Ice Lake processor from Intel and graphics cards from AMD. Pair a Radeon card in a Surface Book with one of the beefier Intel chips, and you are most of the way to a machine that will suit gamers. The controller options are already there, which leaves some considerations on the screen as well as an accurate keyboard.

What's missing? It might be better to ask what does it mean to the gaming machine? Off the top of me you need a responsive screen, lots of memory, fast access to storage, the capacity to handle high thermal load without losing performance.

If you look at this from the other side of the equation, gaming PCs are used by creatives without the same specifications. That's something picked up at gaming manufacturers such as Razer, who recently released a 'Creatives' version of the Razer Blade in the ' Razer Studio ' edition:

Brad Wildes, Senior Vice President of Razer's Systems Business unit said, “Razer Blades have become the laptop of choice for users desiring uncompromising performance in a premium design. Now, with the power of NVIDIA Quadro GPUs, the Razer Blade Studio Edition will exceed the demands of professional content creators. ”

Given the Surface Book's familiar nod towards power and creativity, especially at the higher end of the portfolio, there's now Canadian-US actor Keanu Reeves announces the new video game " Cyberpunk 2077 " at the Microsoft Xbox press event ahead of the E3 gaming convention in Los Angeles on June 9, 2019. While it is unlikely to be marketed as a pure gaming machine, the designers of the Surface Book 3 have an opportunity to make sure that the hardware – at least at the higher configurations – offers the option oa solid gaming experience. It might not be outdated dedicated machines, but the ability to play a good game will make the Surface Book just that little bit more attractive in a crowded marketplace.
