Vaccinations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are being administered at several locations in New Jersey on Thursday, the first day more than 4 million additional people were eligible to receive the shots.
Currently, there are 128 vaccination sites listed on the state website as health officials move forward with a plan to inoculate 70% of the adult population.
The shots were originally given to health professionals, long-term caregivers, others in a cohesive environment, police and firefighters.

This includes 1.47 million who are 65 years and older, 2 million smokers and up to 1 million others with chronic health conditions. (Smokers are considered to have a high risk health risk).
Lawmakers are also pushing for teachers to be vaccinated, pointing to other states like New York that have prioritized educators for the shots.
Over the next six months, New Jersey plans to vaccinate about 4.7 million people. According to the public and federal officials, the public should be able to receive the vaccinations by April or May.
There will be six distribution megasides throughout New Jersey, officials have said. Murphy has said more are coming up with up to 259 scheduled placements.
Here is the latest list of vaccine sites listed by the state, although the availability of doses may affect appointment times. Supplies can also fluctuate daily as the federal government sends more vaccines to states.
As of Thursday, at least 277,118 doses had been given across the state out of 654,900 doses distributed to New Jersey, according to the state dashboard and CDC tracker. According to the state, 245,785 have received a first dose and 31,239 have received the second.
More than 1.2 million people have registered on the state’s online portal to receive the vaccine, officials have said.
