Autonomous driving company Waymo has launched its linkage with Lyft using a "handful" of vehicles to retrieve riders in its Phoenix test zone, per. CNBC. To be justified, Loft users who request a trip must make a trip that both starts and ends in Phoenix that it is already blocked for its own autonomous test.
The number of cars on the road is under 10, since Waymo is planning to expand to 10 in total for this test, but is not there yet. These factors combined mean that the number of people getting this option is probably not astronomical, but when selected, they get a chance to decide whether to go with the autonomous solution through one of Waymo's vans (with a safety driver on board) or just hold onto a traditional lift .
Waymo and Lyft announced their partnership back in May, and the company plans to continue operating its own Waymo One commercial autonomous riding service with Lyft team-up.
