On this Go Red Day for Women, doctors for Weirton Medical Center make sure everyone understands the importance of women's heart health.
"Heart disease itself is a very serious problem, and when we think of heart disease, we think of the men who have heart attacks because it is common there. One thing we miss is that it is also very common with women too, "says Dr. Vardhan Reddy, Chief Medical Officer at Weirton Medical Center.
Medical center held an informative event Friday in honor of Go Red Day for Women.
During the event, members, nurses and doctors learned about and treated the surprising statistics about women's heart health. Dr. Reddy also gave a speech and free blood pressure screenings were offered.
Heart disease affects women from 20 to 1
"Most of the heart problems we see in women are completely ely unrecognized. When not known, they come to the hospital very late in care. We lose 1 in 3 women due to heart disease," said Dr. Reddy.
