CARACAS, Venezuela – A Venezuelan official says Russian aircraft arrived in Caracas on the weekend as part of the ongoing military cooperation between the two Allies.
The official said Sunday that Russian military officials are visiting to discuss equipment maintenance and training and strategy. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the senses.
Flightradar24, a flight tracking site, showed the flight path on Saturday for what was referred to as a Russian air force, apparently heading for Caracas while flying over the Caribbean.
Javier Mayorca, a Venezuelan journalist, tweeted that a Russian military aircraft with military equipment also arrived in Caracas on Saturday.
Reports could not be verified independently.
Russia backs Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who has rejected claims from the United States and dozens of other countries he is resigning.
