Unreal Motors' impressive new destruction technology has given us a glimpse of the next generation of real-time destruction.
Demonstrated on GDC 2019, Epic's new "Chaos" destruction technology sees good treatment. It's leaps and bounds over Crackdown 3's cloud-driven (dead) multiplayer, and it's all rendered in real time on a PC.
Chaos will be available in Unreal Engine 4.23. Epic claims that the technology can be used to "achieve real-time movie quality art in scenes with massive levels of destruction." As a fan of destruction technology in play (like Red Faction Guerilla) it seems to be amazing.
To watch Chaos in action, check out Epic's video below. Although it shows things we've already seen, like devastating tires, it shows more extreme damage.
Chaos certainly looks like a game-changer for destruction physics in play and it's on local hardware. (Sorry, Crackdown 3)
For more destruction in play, see our example of Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain. Not only does it have hordes of enemy insects in it, but you can also level buildings!
