Two people died and 23 were hospitalized after a boat capsized off the coast of Southern California on Sunday, authorities said.
The incident was reported just before noon. 10.30 near San Diego, the city’s fire department said in a statement. Dozens of crews responded to the Point Loma area near the Cabrillo National Monument.
The dead passengers were not immediately identified.
The department said they received chest compression after being rescued.
It was not clear why the boat turned around who the passengers were or whose vessel they were on. They were taken to at least eight local hospitals, the department said, although it was not clear what kind of injuries they were suffering.
Local and federal authorities responded to the incident, the department said.
