NEW YORK, NEW YORK – JANUARY 09: Passengers are waiting in a Transport Security Administration (TSA) line at JFK Airport on January 9, 2019 in New York City. It has been reported that hundreds of TSA screeners and agents have called sick from their shift from a number of major airports, as the partial government interruption continues.

Miami International Airport closes one of its terminals early in the weekend as twice the usual number of transport security officers who work unpaid in the partial public shutdown, called sick.

The agency acknowledged that uncontrolled absence of the 51,000 TSA officers has increased, but said " security standards remain compromised at our nation's airports. "About 5.6 percent of Officers called themselves sick on Saturday, up from 3.3 percent a year ago, odd spokesman Michael Bilello.

TSA considers a normal waiting time on the security line 30 minutes or less. At Miami International Airport, McCarren International Airport (serving Las Vegas) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the maximum waiting times were 29 minutes, Bilello said. Other countries around the country were lower and the effect on air travelers has so far been minimal.

"We usually see 30-40 TSA call outs per day, but it's doubled in the last few days," Greg Chin, spokesman for the Miami International Airport, told CNBC in an email. He said the airport has about 700 TSA workers scheduled to work every day.

From Saturday, flights flying from Terminals G will begin after. Through the same time on Sunday and Monday will be moved to terminals F or H. The change is a "precautionary measure and better utilizes the diminished staffing," Chin said.

United Airlines uses other ports for flights planned to depart from terminal G and tells travelers to arrive at the airport early and to check for changes, a spokeswoman said.

TSA administrator David Pekoske late Friday said screeners would receive $ 500 and be paid for December 22, the day the decommissioning began.
