Donald Trump charged the Secret Service nearly $ 10,200 for the use of guest rooms at his New Jersey golf club in May, recently released records show.
May fees at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey were $ 10,199.52 for an 18-day stay – approx. $ 566 per night at the resort.
The Secret Service also released documents including a “hotel request”
Charging rent from his security details from the government is not new, as Trump has often charged the Secret Service for rooms used by his agents, even during his presidency, according to the Washington Post.
Currently, there are no laws preventing Trump and his company from demanding that the Secret Service pay rent on his properties, and prices are at the Trump Organization’s discretion. The secret service is required by law to pay everything required to rent rooms near its customers.
Joe Biden is the only other protected person who has charged rent from the Secret Service. During his presidency, Biden charged a monthly rent of $ 2,200 for the use of a cottage on his Delaware property. However, since becoming president, Biden has not been hired by the Secret Service.
The release of these bills comes when New York state attorneys announced criminal charges against the Trump Organization for its business dealings. The company and its CFO Allen Weisselberg have been charged with tax-related crimes. Weisselberg and the company last week pleaded not guilty.
