Toyota has confirmed that it will launch a GT4 customer program centered on the new GR Supra road model next year.
As revealed by Sportscar365 last month, the Japanese manufacturer will activate the GR Supra GT4 Concept which it unveiled as a potential program program in March
Toyota Motorsport GmbH vice president Rob Leupen said that the GT4 race car is being developed in Germany ahead of a possible race debut at the end of this year. ] The programs confirm the GR Supra will race on three platforms in 2020, with a NASCAR Xfinity Series entry already in place as an upcoming Japanese Super GT500 car.
A Toyota statement said it "intends to strengthen its focus on customer motorsports ”with its new project, and hopes to develop ever-better cars using the feedback through race participation.” For the GR Supra GT4, Toyota has forged partnerships with Pirelli for the tires, Ravenol for lubricants and Slovenian company Akrapovič for exhaust systems development.
