Tomorrow War live to fight another day. The sci-fi time film starring Chris Pratt already has a sequel in the works, Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Director Chris McKay is expected to return alongside screenwriter Zach Dean and much of the original cast, which in addition to Pratt included Yvonne Strahovski, JK Simmons, Betty Gilpin and Sam Richardson. Skydance and Amazon Studios are behind the project.
Tomorrow War debuted on Amazon Prime on July 2 and appears to have achieved strong numbers for the service, according to Pratt. While Amazon – like many other streamers – does not deliver the number of viewers, Pratt celebrated his release by saying on Instagram this week that the film broke records in the first 48 hours and “was the world̵
Tomorrow War, which cost nearly $ 160 million to create, Pratt plays as a high school teacher with a military background who is among those recruited from soldiers of the future who need people to arrive on time to fight alien invaders.
The project was originally set up on Paramount, but moved to Amazon earlier this year in the midst of the ongoing pandemic. (Amazon scaled down a hefty $ 200 million). Amazon also picked up Coming 2 America.
To date, Coming 2 America remains the most viewed original film in terms of opening weekend, according to insiders. Tomorrow War however, opened opening weekend records in selected international markets, including Japan and Brazil.
Deadline first reported the news Tomorrow War successor.
