Can you believe that it has been a whole year since the bulky English bulldog Zsa Zsa was crowned as the world's most ugly dog in 2018?
Well, here we are. It's June 2019, and the latest edition of the world's ugliest dog competition was decided Friday. And the winner is … Scamp the Tramp.
Found and rescued in Los Angeles an hour before being subjected to euthanasia, this funny looking little guy has proven to be a very good dog! According to his bio, he has spent the last seven years working as a pet therapist, inspiring children and seniors, both with his distinctive appearance.
He uses the seniors time to try to guess which breed or race combo leads to Scamp's appearance and thick cords of fur. The kids hug him and call him a "fuzzy watermelon." Maybe it's not too far away?
The annual competition is only a piece of the celebrations at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California. While it may be aimed at recognizing the "world's ugliest dog", the competition really helps spread awareness and get people excited about rescue.
None of these dogs fit the traditional cuteness standard for our four-legged friends, but they save everyone who found their way into loving homes. As fun as it is to celebrate all those uniquely-looking good boys and good girls, there are plenty of dogs out there who need homes and will not get one unless people like us step up.
