The White House is considering appointing an immigration tsar

The top white house officials and members of President Donald Trump's cabinet have entertained the idea as the situation at the southern border has worsened. With border crossing detention centers and a large number of unaccompanied minors extending across federal resources, top management services increasingly believe they need a point person to coordinate the efforts of multiple agencies and departments.

Among those considered to fill the post is Kris Kobach, former Kansas secretary, and Ken Cuccinelli, the former Virginia lawyer general, who is also a CNN political commentator.

The White House, Cuccinelli and Kobach did not respond promptly to CNN comment requests.

The Associated Press first reported that the White House was considering hiring a tsar.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has warned of a "care crisis" and Commissioner for Customs and Border Control Kevin McAleenan declared last week that his agency has reached a "break point".
