The United States will soon require air passengers to prove that they recently tested negative for Covid-1
The measure, which aims to slow the spread of the disease, comes as new cases hit records.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s demands for negative Covid tests, previously reported by The Wall Street Journal, could take effect on January 26, according to one of the population. The CDC, the State Department and the Department of Transportation did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The CDC last month began demanding negative Covid tests for travelers flying from the UK when a more contagious strain of the virus was discovered there, although it has since been found around the US
International air travel remains extremely depressed due to virus and travel restrictions banning many foreigners from entering the United States
In December, international arrivals by plane fell 76% from a year earlier, with non-citizens arriving 83%, according to Airlines for America, a trading group representing most major US airlines.
