The United States is asking Tesla to recall 158,000 vehicles for touch screen faults

WASHINGTON, Jan. 13 (Reuters) – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday asked Tesla Inc to recall 158,000 Model S and Model X vehicles due to failures in the media control unit that could pose safety risks by leading to touch screen does not work.

The auto safety agency made the unusual request in a formal letter to Tesla on Wednesday after upgrading a safety probe in November. NHTSA said the problem could result in loss of the rear view camera image when it is backward and reduced visibility from behind when backing up as well as the Autopilot driver system.
