Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich will have a companion in the future. A dual satellite, Sentinel-6B, will launch in 2025. The combination will help maintain the climate record for “at least” another decade between the two ships, NASA said. It takes about a year for the original satellite to take over from its predecessor, the Jason-3.
The timing can be ideal. The incoming U.S. government is expected to fully recognize climate science, and an advanced satellite can help the administration make better-informed policy decisions.
