Traditionally, royal family members wait until a baby has come to find out their sex. And even though Meghan Markle admitted their firstborn sex a surprise, some sources report that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex actually know if they have a baby boy or girl. If these reports are correct, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will welcome a son in the spring.

Prior to their due date, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex probably spent some time considering potential names. And it is possible that Prince Harry will pay tribute to his mother, Princess Diana. But if they have a boy, "Diana" may not be on their list of possible names – that's why some fans think the couple might choose to name their son Spencer, after Diana's girl name.

If Prince Harry and Meghan Markle name their first-born after Princess Diana, it doesn't technically break royal rules (which recommend naming a baby for royal family members). But naming their baby spencer could raise a problem. Since Spencer is not technically a royal family name, that means the Queen could disagree with their plan. But the decision is ultimately up to them, and Prince Harry is ½ Spencer.

The Spencer family is also one of the oldest aristocratic families in the United Kingdom and has more ties to the royal family, allowing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to consider breaking the protocol for their child's name.

Besides Spencer, some also think that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could name their son Albert, James, Philip and Arthur, after King Arthur.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle baby girl names

If the rumors are not true and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a baby girl, the parents have some sweet names options for their firstborn. Elizabeth and Diana are obvious top competitions as they would pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth and Prince's late mother. But some also believe that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex can draw inspiration from their feminist ideals to determine a name.

In honor of strong, powerful female leaders, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could choose to name their daughter Victoria after Queen Victoria. The legendary monarch ruled from 1837 to 1876. In addition, they can join Alexandra, which means "human help", and coincide with their passion for philanthropy. Another potential winner? Margaret after Queen Elisabeth's sister and infamous royal family governor, Princess Margaret. Mary and Alice are also top picks.
