When considering whether to introduce more restrictions in New Jersey ascases are climbing, said Governor Phil Murphy a would provide “more degrees of freedom.” The governor has suggested that closing down businesses would be too damaging without the help of the federal government.

Democrats and Republicans in Congress have been in a stalemate for months over a new stimulus package, with many pandemic aid programs running out of funding or expected to expire in December.
New Jersey, like many states across the country, has seen a sharp increase in cases over the past few weeks. Murphy announced new restrictions last week and limited indoor gatherings to 10 people and outdoor gatherings to 150 people. But there is not a home order as it was in the spring when coronavirus cases first rose.
Murphy said the state “had no choice in the spring.”
“This is something we knew nothing about as a nation, frankly as a global health community. It is an asset today. We know much more,” he said. “We’re in a couple of months and we have to be vigilant, but we know a lot more. We have a lot more capacity and the vaccine scene is real. They’re coming. They want to be safe. They want to be effective. But in the next two to three months we are in a fierce war. “
Murphy begged people not to gather for the coming holidays.
“Celebrate only with your immediate family, and please do not do it with grandma and grandpa,” he said.
The governor also responded to a recent incident in which he and his family were charged while eating outside. He called the incident “unfortunate” but said he understands stress levels are high.
“I’m a big guy. I can take it. My wife can take it. I prefer people to be more civilian and leave our kids out of this, but I get complete stress,” he said. “Stress levels are unusually high. You’ve lost a job, you’ve lost a business, you’ve lost a loved one. I can not blame people for being stressful. I just wanted to preach that we should try to find ways to get together, go down. This is not forever and always. We have a few tough few months ahead of us, but we’ll get through this. We just have to do it together. “
