7;s headquarters.

Ever since Apple launched its first smartwatch, back in 2015, the Apple Watch has been a much-appreciated laptop across many different demographics – though the price tag made it affordable for some. That changed Tuesday when the company announced the Watch SE, a more affordable watch for those whose budgets previously did not extend to Apple smartwatch ownership.

With the product starting at $ 279, Apple looks set to appeal to a new audience of smartwatch carriers – including children. The new Apple Watch Family Setup feature lets people connect multiple watches to an iPhone, and Apple clearly hopes parents can be persuaded to invest in a smartwatch for their beloved offspring.

Although similar to the current Series 3 watch, the Watch SE features a more powerful processor than Apple’s older watch. Series 3 goes back to 2017, so customers may well be reassured to know that Apple is doing more than rebadging an old product; the company has given the gadget a much needed internal update to make it relevant in 2020 and beyond.

Apple unveils cheap Apple Watch SE

As you might expect from a cheaper model, the SE does not have all the advanced features of Apple’s advanced watches, such as fall detection or an ECG monitor, but it still has a number of fitness tracking features. These include the same accelerometer, gyroscope and always-on altimeter as the new Apple Watch Series 6. The company also promises larger and easier-to-read readings on its “most advanced” watch screen, which is actually 30 percent larger than the Series 3 screen.

Apple’s September event is usually an opportunity for the company to show off its latest iPhones, but without phones appearing Tuesday, watches were able to stand in the center. We are Expect to see Apple unveil the iPhone 12 in a few weeks, but until then, the company has offered some things to get excited about.

Among the announcements Apple made at Tuesday’s event is the unveiling of the Apple Watch SE to potentially bring a much-loved (and bright) product to a new audience. While experienced smartwatch owners or those who need deeper insight into their health metrics may still be attracted to the more expensive, premium Apple Watch, SE may be able to do a good job of serving most people looking for an attractive and capable smartwatch.

Watch SE can also benefit Apple by letting it hold on to its position as the market leader in global wearables sales. A cheaper smartwatch can enable the company to lure in buyers who might otherwise have opted for a budget fitness tracker from rivals like Fitbit.
