Amazon Studios’ is aiming to bring a bigger villain back to the upcoming one Lord of the Rings series.
The streamer teased the new prequel series and the comeback of one of the book and film franchise’s biggest villains in a description of the new show, directed by JA Bayona and star Will Poulter, Robert Aramayo, Maxim Baldry and more. The details of the new series, first reported by TheOneRing.net, tease “the greatest villain ever to flow from Tolkien’s pen.”

The TV adaptation that takes place in Middle-earth will explore new stories ahead of JRR Tolkien’s The community of the ring and watch characters discover wonders of the second age. Although not mentioned in the description, Sauron came to power during the aforementioned fantastic period. Sauron’s first appearance in the film franchise was in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings.
That LOTR the series, which is filming its first season and has already been renewed for season 2, is directed by JD, Payne and Patrick McKay; together with filmmaker JA Bayona, who directs the first two episodes and acts as executive producer along with his creative partner Belén Atienza. Lindsey Weber, Bruce Richmond, Callum Greene, Gennifer Hutchison, Jason Cahill, Justin Doble and Sharon Tal Yguado are also executive producers.
