The $ 87 million Bel-Air mansion debuts after seven years of renovation

Seven is a magic number for one of Bel-Air’s most expensive spec homes.

The Glass and Marble Palace, located at 777 Sarbonne Road in Los Angeles, hit the market last month with a sale price of $ 87,777,777.

The triple seven in its address and price is just the beginning. Many of the architectural details of the house were designed in measurements that are multiples of seven.

There is a giant front door made of glass that is 14 meters high and the ceilings in the massive living room are 21 meters high. At the end of the driveway, three oversized sevens measure 7 feet, 7 inches high.

The home with seven bedrooms and 11 bathrooms is owned by cosmetic surgeon Dr. Alex Khadavi.

“Seven is a number and theme that has influenced me in all important aspects of my life,” Khadavi said in an interview, “from the time I came to America, to the floor level of my condominium.”

Khadavi, who came to the United States in 1979 from Tehran, is 48.

And in particular, the home has been in operation for seven years, and its dramatic images before and after reveal an astonishing transformation.

In 2014, the old facade of 777 Sarbonne was covered with yellow stucco and red awnings.

CNBC first reported on the property in 2014, when the site was home to an outdated stucco mansion bought by Khadavi for $ 16 million. The doctor’s real estate agent, Aaron Kirman, told CNBC that a few months after Khadavi bought it, he received a $ 24 million offer from a developer seeking to buy the unimproved property to demolish the old home and build a new one in its place.

Instead of accepting the offer, which was a profit of $ 8 million from his purchase price, Khadavi decided to develop it himself. He hired Ali Rad Design and embarked on a seven-year journey to give the old mansion a facelift.

“Facelift is an understatement, but yes, seven years and so many millions, I do not even want to know how many,” said Kirman, who now co-lists 777 Sarbonne with Mauricio Umansky of the RE agency.

The living room has 21 foot ceilings and a floor-to-ceiling glass wall that opens onto the backyard.

The mansion’s makeover was almost a total demolition, its owner said. Only one wall from the old house still stands. It is in the modern home new living room.

Gone is the red paint and black wrought iron walkway. Now, sleek white walls, polished Carrera marble floors and a 21-foot-high glass wall open to jaw-dropping views of Los Angeles.

Khadavi also built a secret into the living room, designed to dazzle guests. At the touch of a button, a part of the floor hidden under a rug can be set in motion. It immediately begins to rise toward the ceiling. Mirrored steel supports, driven by an industrial-strength hydraulic lift, push the marble’s 7 feet up into the air. Within seconds, a sleek DJ booth and dance platform – formerly hidden in an underground level in the home – takes center stage.

Hidden underground under the rising party platform is a vault, a storage area for red wine and the house’s electronic brains that control everything from sound systems to projected non-fungal tokens. Khadavi said he plans to project the digital art over the pool and have NFTs on screens throughout the house.

Further above the hydraulic DJ cabin, and apparently floating across the living room, is a dramatic glass bridge leading to the owner’s suite.

The owner’s bath is also covered in white marble. The book-matched Italian stone meets in the center, where an oval bath and a gold-colored designer chandelier are the focal point.

Along the glass wall of the bath there is a double shower that runs across the width of the room. And if you’d rather not shower in front of all of Los Angeles, a push of a button can instantly mist the glass for privacy.

The bedroom contains a massage room and two identical walk-in closets, each with a skylight and another golden chandelier hanging in the middle.

Two garages on the property look more like luxury showrooms. One is covered in white marble and the other in black. Above the parking area noir there is a separate guest house with two bedrooms.

Vista is protected by a display promotion that cost the previous owner $ 500,000, Kirman said. The service prevents the neighbor below from building a home or even growing a tree that will obstruct the view of 777 Sarbonne.

“It’s a hugely important aspect of the sale of this house,” Kirman said. “I think they got away with paying $ 500,000 because this house is about the view, and the view speaks for itself.”
