Tesla takes back one of its most popular sales incentives; unlimited free supercharging, as an incentive for the quarter, but there is a warning.
In the first few years of the Model S and Model X program, unlimited free supercharging has been one of the best benefits offered by Tesla to its customers.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that perk was not sustainable and he even admitted that they should have completed the incentive earlier:
"Sorry, it is not really sustainable in volume production and does not appear optimal behavior. likely to have completed it earlier. "
Then Tesla still brought back free Supercharging as an incentive to sell vans and even Model 3 over a few periods this year.
For a while, free supercharging was also tied to Tesla's owner referral program, but the automaker has since released the program and incentive.
Sources have now told Electrek that Tesla is taking back the free Supercharging incentive as a quarterly discount to convince current owners to upgrade their cars.
According to people who are familiar with the case, Tesla offers existing owners with free supercharging on their current vehicles to become grandfathered-in when they buy a new Model S or Model X and get 3 year free unlimited Supercharging if they order and deliver at the end of the quarter.
We contacted Tesla about the new incentive, but the company refused to comment.
I know shor ts will be over this saying that Tesla has a question of demand. I do not think that is the case ̵
Tesla has a problem with being a public company and focuses on quarterly results too much. This is why they make quarterly discounts in this way to find customers who can deliver before the end of the quarter in the markets where the cars will actually end.
For example, Tesla does not make cars right now to get to Europe because it will result in a large number of vehicles in transit at the end of the quarter. Instead, they make cars for the US market where it can be delivered faster, but it results in an unreasonably high demand for the specific market for a short period.
Therefore, discounts are the way to run sales. 19659003] That's fine for me. We have known for some time that there is often a way to get some better deals at the end of a quarter, but I think Tesla should be honest about it.
With all the different price changes lately and now this seems clear that Tesla has abandoned its policy without discount.
We are not in Elon's days sending emails like this more:
"There can never – and I mean never a discount on a new car coming out of the factory in Therefore, I always pay full price when I buy a car, and the same goes for my family friends, celebrities, no matter how famous or influential. "
You can try to argue that it is not a" discount "in itself, but Elon herself claimed that free supercharging should be worth thousands of dollars and therefore it is an incentive for the monetary value offered to buyers for a limited time – also a discount.
