Preliminary remarks (Dabo Swinney): “We got people traveling from all over the country. We met the standard for playing. We should have played. We have softened this all year round. All year round. If the standard for playing were zero positive tests, we would never have played This game was not played because of Covid 1

9. For me, the Florida State Administration has lost the game, if they want to play, they have to come to Clemson.

“From my perspective, this is in hindsight. My focus, our focus, 1000 percent, is on Pitt.”

Questions: Did you call Coach Norvell?

Swinney: “None. This was bigger than me and Coach Norvell.”

Questions: Was ACC involved in any way? John Swofford?

Swinney: “I have never spoken to Commissioner Swofford. That would be another question And (Radakovich). “

Questions: How did the players react to the news?

Swinney: “They were not happy. They were checked. Most people have no idea what goes into preparation, a week of preparation. You sacrifice so much. These guys have gone so extreme to be able to play. Listen, if there was a problem, the standard is not met and we did not play, that’s one thing. But it has not happened here. We will continue. This has been the case this year. Our team has stepped up to the apartment every week throughout the season. It’s just unfortunate that it did not happen. ”

Questions: You said you did not think it was related to Covid-19. Why do you think this game was not played?

Swinney: “I can not answer that. I just know that the standard of playing was met. I just know they called the game. So now we change the rules? You either trust the tests or not. So if guys test negative, are you not traveling? If a guy has an earache or runny nose, do you not take him even if he tests negative? The bottom line is that the rules were introduced for everyone. We met the rules. We met the standard. They chose not to play.

That is why we test every Friday. That is why we wear masks and shields. ”

Questions: How does this affect your routine?

Swinney: “On Saturday, we typically break down the previous game. It just allows us to get further ahead on Pitt today. ”

Questions: Do you see this potentially changing the relationship between your administration and Florida State?

Swinney: “I have no idea. You can ask Dan. I feel bad for their players too. There is no way anyone can convince me that their players did not want to play.”

Questions: If the ACC orders you back to Tallahassee to play, then do you?

Swinney: “It’s a question for Dan. That’s an awful lot of money. We were there, we were ready, and we met the standards for playing. There was no reason to cancel the game. $ 300,000 has just gone out the window. So your question is for Dan. ”

Questions: If their concern was that a guy tested positive, what other reason was given for not playing?

Swinney: “If that’s their concern, why did they play this year? I have not seen any examples of that. Zero. If that’s their concern, they shouldn’t have played the season. We’re testing on Friday, guys. We all know that. The standard for playing was met. Trevor Lawrence practiced all week. Boston College had no problem getting down here. Notre Dame had no problem playing us. ”

Questions: How much information sharing has there been among coaches and teams in terms of positives and contact tracking?

Swinney: “You can ask all the medical people all that. I’m not a doctor. I just coach the team and we have done everything within the rules. Everything we have done is based on what the league has presented. ”

Questions: When did you first get the understanding that there may have been a problem with the game going forward?

Swinney: “Saturday morning. I found out we had a positive Friday night. We flew him alone. But I knew nothing but all this until early Saturday morning … that there was worry about not playing because of “A Friday test. That’s why the list was expanded. Now all of a sudden we have memory loss on it.”

Questions: Will there be more thorough discussions between ya’ll and Va. Tech?

Swinney: “It’s a question for the medical people. We have traveled several times this year. We ate breakfast in the parking lot at Tallahassee. We had a tent growth. (Their) medical team apparently changed their minds in Tallahassee. ”

Questions: Have you talked to any of your friends in coaching circles about this and how are they?

Swinney: “Yeah, I’ve talked to a couple and they feel the same way I do.”

Questions: Some early thoughts on Pitt.

Swinney: “Hard. Well coached. They had a few tough games along the way. They are a physical group with great effort and they are well coached. They are built to stop the race. They will challenge you to be in close coverage. Offensively, they are an 11-10 staff team and will throw the ball. They throw and catch just about anyone we’ve played. They have a lot of confidence. This is our last home game, Military Appreciation Day. It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around it. It looks like a long year, but at the same time it has flown by. We honor some amazing seniors. ”

Questions: How was the conversation with the team yesterday morning?

Swinney: “Disappointing. I told them what had happened and then we talked about our plan going ahead. We got them fed, and then we encrypted to get pilots, and then we let them know when we would retire. “They had family there and many people had flown in to be there. They were disappointed.”
