As entertaining as Stranger Ting 3 is, there is no doubt that it leaves many open questions on the way into a potential fourth season. In a new interview, creators show that the Duffer brothers are discussing what might or may not look like if and when the fourth season happens.
Spoilers for the end of season three, of course.
"Assuming there is a season four, the question is who the American is in that cell and also what they do with Demogorgon , a teasing, "Ross Duffer told entertainment weekly. "It will of course play a big role in a possible season four."

Considering that David Harbor, who plays the thought of death Sheriff Hopper, celebrated with the Russians throughout the season and makes interviews as if he was not is dead, it is probably safe to assume he is the American in the cell – but who knows for sure? Well, Duffers do. They continue.
"I think the biggest thing to do is open it up a bit, not necessarily in the form of scales for special effects, but open up to allow portals to areas outside Hawkins", added Matt Duffer.
It also makes sense, considering that the mystery of the Americans as well as the aforementioned Demogorgon are both in Russia. The story should at least partially take place there. As we said, it's pretty obvious that all these things are on the table considering how the season ended. Duffers would not intentionally put such specific teasers in the series under the credits unless it was planned.
The question then becomes: How much is planned at this time, as Netflix has not yet confirmed a fourth season? (That being said, considering the Netflix requirements Stranger Things 3 was one of the most watched shows ever on the service you must assume it's anything but guaranteed.) "We don't know much, but we know many of the big lines," said Ross Duffer. He then explained where they were at this time after the previous season.
"At the end of season two, we knew about Billy. We knew the Russians should come in. We didn't know the mall and things, but again we know these big broad lines," he said. "This is how we are in season four. We have the big wide strikes. It is right now to fill these lines in the details. We are very excited about where it will potentially go. Again, as we said, It feels very different from this season, but I think it's the right thing to do, and I think it's going to be exciting. "
It certainly worked in season three, so we believe it too. Stranger Things 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
