Finn came in Star wars as a storm trooper in the first order. Unlike most stormtroopers, however, Finn’s character was written as a sensitive stormtrooper with a conscience to boot.

The character of Finn represents a dichotomy between a heartless stormtrooper and a kind-hearted hero. Finn was brought up to serve the first order. However, he must leave his allegiance to the first order after his conscience no longer allows him to murder innocent people.

Throughout Star wars trilogy follows, Finn undergoes significant character development. His moral shift causes him to leave the first order and join the resistance.

Participating in the resistance not only eases Finn’s conscience, but allows him to experience a sense of family for the first time in his life.

While this character development sounds good and good, the writers simply missed the mark with Finn.

Finn is a really interesting character. However, representation of Finn as a multilayer figure is never performed correctly throughout the series. What fans are left with is simply a hollow character that would have benefited from a more thorough exploration.

During several interviews and on his online platforms, Boyega revealed that he simply felt that after three films, Finn was not getting the attention he deserved. Fans were never allowed to know Finn the way they should have.

While disappointment surrounded his role as Finn, Star wars franchise gave Boyega a platform he never knew before. Boyega was just 22 when he starred in the first Star wars movies starring in one of the biggest franchises on the planet. Becoming part of such a large community has given Boyega a large audience to talk to. Boyega has not just used this platform to strengthen his own name and his career.

According to GQ, he has actually used this massive platform to talk about important issues like institutional racism, racial injustice and the Black Lives Matter movement. Boyega is a breath of fresh air in the entertainment industry and has continuously shown an upright character both on and off screen.
