Stanley Cup playoffs results: Capitals, Predators, Avalanche win OT thrillers; Bruins cruise to Game 2 win

If the first few days of the Stanley Cup playoff action are any indication, then we are facing a heel of an NHL season.

With all eight first-round series along the way and a handful of games 2 & # 39; are in the books, it is safe to say that some playoff brackets are already in danger of crumbling with the round favorite Tampa Bay Lightning, behind 0-2 in their series against Columbus Blue Jackets and Barry Trotz New York Islanders already up 2-0 at the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Saturday was no less exciting when three games went overtime and three series were evened throughout the day.

    Goodnight, Calgary

Colorado Avalanche averted their late game comeback and smoothed the series with a 3-2 OT victory on Saturday. Nathan MacKinnon killed Calgary's dagger with this dirty snipe in overtime. What a laser. What a day of hockey.

Yet another OT to end the day

The flames and avalanches were locked in a tight 1-1 game when Sean Monahan finally broke the death death and found the forward target with a chip shot past Philip Grubauer. With less than eight minutes left in the game, it looked like it could be the game winner.

However, Avs pulled his goalkeeper for the extra skater and found an equalizer out of the bar by J.T. Stay back for two and a half minutes. As a result, we have again got another overtime game on our hands – the third of the day.

    An ugly finish in Boston

Bruins continued to make their way with the leaves in the third period of Games 2 and ultimately took home a 4-1 win to draw straight in the series, but the great story of the third Period was how things got out of control. Officiating was pretty awful all night, and the judges lost control of the game (if they ever had it) and ultimately led to this Nazem Kadri vengeance, which crossed Jake DeBrusk's face.

Kadri and DeBrusk went on it all night, and Leaf's center was pushed over the edge over a battle DeBrusk put on Patrick Marleau. We may not have to see Kadri in at least a few games, as it is very possible that the league comes down with a suspension due to this game – especially considering that he is a repeating judge.

Things get sloppy, testy in Boston

The Bruins got an absolute gift in the second period when William Nylander set up and got Danton Heinen slamming a light goal in Leafs & # 39; net, which made it 3-0 Boston.

It was a little ugly at the end of the second period, when Jake DeBrusk and Nazem Kadri, who had gone on it all night, collided knee-on-knees. Kadri seemed to be injured as a result of heat, but no punishment was called.

The Toronto Center returned to the game in the third and got Toronto on the table with this deflection.

Craig Smith secures the win for Nashville

The predators and stars will head to Dallas with their series all connected at 1-1. Saturday's Game 2 needed overtime to find a winner, but it was Nashville's Craig Smith who netted the crucial figure 15 minutes in the extra frame. He knocked it off with an excellent party for good measure.

Bruins come out flaming against Leafs

Bruins had a tough start to the series with a sloppy Game 1, but they came out of the gate and with a ton of energy on Saturday night. Charlie Coyle got Boston on the table early with his first playoff goal in a Bruin's uniform, but the real highlight of the first period came when David Pastrnak delivered this beautiful spin-o-rama assistant to Brad Marchand.

Bruins dominated a scrappy, heated first period and took a 2-0 lead for the first break at TD Garden.

Stars, Predators knock it out in low scoring games

The stars took Game 1 and Nashville is trying to force a split before the series heads to Dallas, but this game has been at stake for the first 40 minutes. The opening frame contained 20 minutes of scoreless action between these two stingy defensive teams.

Dallas was first on the table with a goal from Jamie Benn's stick in the second period. This goal was created by a tremendous feed from Tyler Seguin, who fought a sliding (?) PK Subban in the castle.

The predators could tie the score later in the period with a goal from Rocco Grimaldi – his first career playoff tally.

    BROOKS ORPIK!

People, we have a Brooks Orpik game winner in overtime. Yes, at Brooks Orpik – he has two goals in the normal season. Orpik picked a corner just a few minutes in the OT to give the Washington win in Game 2.

Brett Pesce lost his stick earlier in that shift and I'm not quite sure what he did in the last order but it looks like he forced Mrazek deep into his own network before continuing to screen him at the game winner. Not great.

    Heading to OT in Washington

The chapters grabbed a 3-2 link in the third period when Alex Ovechkin found Tom Wilson in the rush. Ovechkin's setup was made possible thanks to some free space created by Nicklas Backstrom, who made the choice in the offensive zone.

The capitalists were commanding up to five minutes back in the third period when Carolina once again pulled the strength of a Jordan Staal power play goal. Staal deflected a shot from Dougie Hamilton and saw that the puck jumped hard out of the ice before he came past Braden Holtby.

Carolina's Petr Mrazek made a series of big stops in the third period, including one that kept the match tied up in regulation. We almost had a summer beater, but instead we head to the OT.

Ferland's draft hit, but Canes pull even

There was a bit of a controversial sequence in the second period in Washington, and it resulted in Micheal Ferland being sent to the showers early. As Capitals forward Nic Dowd attempted to enter the zone, Ferland delivered a hit, which officials decided was a check to the head, earned him a five minute major and a fight penalty.

Hurricanes coach Rob Brind & # 39; Amour was not enthusiastic about the call because he did not believe that Ferland had significant contact with the head.

Hurricanes were able to kill five minutes of punishment and finally pull with Caps in the middle frame. Sebastian Aho netted equalizer for Carolina.

Caps come out flaming against Canes

The chapters certainly came to play against the hurricanes Saturday. There was no afternoon wear out of the gate to Washington when Capsene immediately skipped Carolina and jumped out to an early lead 2-0 … again.

Alex Ovechkin has a tremendous shift in the first period when he back-checked to disrupt a hurricane's rush, delivered a big hit in the defensive zone, then led a rush and picked up an assistant at the other end. Ovechkin set the first goal of the day with this absolutely dirty bowl for Nicklas Backstrom.

TJ Oshie came on the board with a nifty backhander, but the real marquee part of the highlight is Oshie disarming a defender with karate kick who sent some logs. Just a hilarious sequence.

Hurricanes was able to utilize some momentum with a goal from Lucas Wallmark in the last five minutes of the opening frame.
