When Disneyland reopened in late April, the new Snow White’s Enchanted Wish also opened. The tour is a new performance about the former Snow White’s scary adventure, and Disney has strongly promoted the new version of the attraction. One of the big new scenes near the finale of the tour features Snow White and Prince Charming’s kiss, an integral part of the film.
Disney is now under criticism from those who believe the scene should have been omitted from the tour as it depicts a situation where Snow White cannot give his consent to be kissed. Acts of physical contact are often considered non-consensual when one or more parties are asleep, intoxicated or otherwise unhealthy.
Those who support the recording of the scene often quote that a snow-white attraction without the kiss of true love would then exclude a main plot point from the story, and the kiss is considered a life-saving act rather than a violation of Snow White̵
Disney’s role in portraying social and cultural issues has been a hot topic recently. This controversy follows in the wake of Disney’s push for inclusivity. There have been major changes in the parks, including the new Disney Look guidelines and the ongoing renovations on Jungle Cruise plus the upcoming closure of Splash Mountain in the U.S. parks.
