Several people were shot Friday afternoon inside the Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, according to preliminary emergency radio traffic.

Commanders at the scene asked the mall to announce that people in the building should be put in place, according to emergency radio traffic from Broadcastify.

There was a large police presence in the mall, and on Twitter, several people reported hearing gunshots and shops responding to an active shooting situation.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office tweeted that it did not respond to the scene. It typically responds to scenes of death.

A mall representative who answered the phone Friday afternoon said the mall could not confirm the shooting and had no information to provide.

A spokeswoman for Wauwatosa police told the Journal Sentinel she would provide information soon.

The call came out shortly before noon. 15, according to emergency shipment sound.

“All teams go to the mall for shots,” a dispatcher sent to officers.

One of the first officers on the scene reported that he had found at least two people who had been shot.

Start EMS. Everyone seems to be cohesive. It’s only in appendices. Nothing fatal at this time, ”the officer sent to senders.

It was unclear how many people had been shot.

Police from across the region responded. The Wisconsin State Patrol also had units on site.

WISN-TV interviewed a woman who said she heard what she initially thought were fireworks in the Eddie Bauer store.

After about eight to 12 shots, everyone around her started running, she said.

The channel’s news helicopter captured footage of at least three people being loaded into ambulances.

Entrance to the mall is closed. The traffic is heavy in the area.
