"American Idol" competitor Shawn Robinson teamed with Elle King ("Ex & amp; s") in a top 20 all-star duet on the Sunday competition show – and their "proud Mary" was not exactly rolled.
Whether due to a missed cue, a forgotten lyric or something else, the performance was unfortunate.
The obvious gaff happened when Robinson seemed to draw a blank as he sang (fast up to 2: 10 below) – but the scene may have been tuned to the fluben earlier.
At the beginning of the number, King went on stage and repeated the "Left a good job in the city" verse that Robinson had already sung. The two skipped "cleaned many plates in the Memphis" verse, which may lead to the lumpy moment on "if you come down to the river".
Robinson, a 22-year-old hardware dealer from Atlanta, said earlier it was not a song he would have chosen. A late decision to slow down the pace (proposed by King) may also have damaged the couple.
