The Galaxy Watch 3 has just got a hot new rival in the form of the Apple Watch 6. But a new update may help Samsung’s smartwatch chances.
This new update has started rolling out to the global LTE versions of the Galaxy Watch 3, especially those in Vietnam as TizenHelp notes. but is likely to appear in other versions in the near future.
The headline is a boost to battery life. Galaxy Watch 3 already lasts approx. two days on a single charge, which is much better than the 18 hours that the Apple Watch 5 and Apple Watch 6 manage. Anything more will just strengthen the Galaxy Watch’s status as the long-lasting smartwatch in this comparison.
There are also several improvements on the health tracking side of things. The patch notes promise increased reliability for VO2Max and SpO2 sensors and for sleep, heart rate and stress scoring. There had been complaints from users that sleep tracking scorer had behaved incorrectly, so hopefully this solves the problem.
Blood oxygen sensors are new to both the new generation of Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch. While we haven’t tried Apple Watch’s health tracking chops yet, all Samsung can do to improve its own sensors will come in handy.
With both watches from an identical $ 399, it will be interesting to see which one comes out on top. The Apple Watch 6 won’t be out until September 18th, so it will take a few days before we get a good understanding of whether the new Apple laptop will remain the best smartwatch you can buy.
