In an interview released on Friday, singer and musician Sam Smith announced that he considered himself "non-binary" and explained how he came to this realization.
"When I saw the word non-binary / genderqueer and I read into it and I heard these people speak," Smith told Jameela Jamil on her Instagram show "In Weigh Interviews," according to People. "I was like," F ̵
The musician also explained how he personally looks to be non-binary and says he is not either sex necessarily but rather "I think I am flowing somewhere in between," reported the expiration.

"Non-binary / genderqueer is that you do not identify in a gender," said Smith, according to People. "You're a mix of all different things. You're your own special creation."
Later, Smith took to Instagram to praise his sit-down and said that while it "took a lot for me to do this," the interview "completely changed my life."

"Being able to talk so openly about my body problems and feel so confident while doing it , was really liberating, "he said. "I am so grateful to Jameela and her team for this opportunity and to be so respectful and kind to me."
"I really hope this can make someone else feel like a little less lonely and a little less stranger," he said.
