Drew Brees’ rib and lung injuries have been shown to be more serious than first thought when it was revealed Saturday that the New Orleans Saints star has 11 broken ribs, according to ESPN.
That number is higher than the initial diagnosis of five broken ribs for quarterback Brees, who also has a collapsed lung, ESPN reported. Further tests showed that Brees has eight broken ribs on the left side and three on the right.
Brees ended last week’s victory over the San Francisco 49ers at the break with what the Saints called a rib injury that suffered in a second-quarter sack at Kentavius Street that was ruled to be rough passersby. Doctors also believe he may have suffered some of his injuries in a previous game, but continued to play.
The Saints officially placed Brees on their injury list on Friday. He was originally expected to miss three games, but the latest medical update could see him stay further out.
