The 2019 BET Awards managed to show off to the go-go scene of Washington, DC, while paying respects to Beyoncé and work a cameo from a thriving Taraji P. Henson in the mix too – and all within the first 15 minutes of the broadcast.
Host Regina Hall led a marching band – one obviously inspired by the one showcased in Homecoming the documentary that followed Beyoncé's historic performance at Coachella 2018 – – through a rambunctious performance or renowned DC go-go / funk band Experience Unlimited's "Da Butt." She was joined by E.U.'s Gregory "Sugar Bear" Elliot and Jonathan McReynolds and James Funk, members of Beloved D.C. go-go crew Rare Essence
Hall think her own with her hometown heroes, all while putting her own hilarious spin on one of the year's most notable releases before the first commercial break. In addition to hosting Sunday night's ceremony, Hall is nominated in the category of best actress.
