While it certainly does not affect everyone, a number of Returnal players experience crashes while playing the game. This is something Housemarque has acknowledged, although it is suggested that the PlayStation 5 is the problem – and not necessarily the game. A spokesman wrote on Discord: “This is a problem with the platform. We have sent our report to [Sony]. Specifically, it has something to do with the pre-start system. “We have no idea what the pre-start system is, but it does not sound good, does it?
In more positive news, the Finnish developer is already aware of and investigating a number of other minor issues, including sound errors, control mapping errors, and a pre-order error. Its full post on Discord is reproduced below:
- The game does not have a secret option
The game team is aware of the problem. There is no need to bring it more attention to it.
- Not able to interact with the manufacturers and not able to pass through doors
If you use a pre-order suit. Go to the break menu and select “Restart your race”
- Sound problems
The sound may be too loud or cut off completely.
- Birds do not appear visually
Invisible bird horns can chase the map and suck you up even if you can’t see them.
- After re-checking controls, some interactions may not work
Mapping custom controls can prevent you from reading things in the house, cleaning chests, or other interactions. To resolve this issue (so far), use the default controller settings.
The crash bug is a big bummer, so hopefully Sony can release a firmware update soon to fix this. Have you had problems with Returnal since the release? Document your discoveries in the comments section below.
