Police said they have identified a woman’s body found on a South Side beach this morning and which has been missing since nearly Halloween.
Officials identified the woman as 22-year-old Davane Gross, whose body was found on Oakwood Beach on Chicago’s South Side.
Police have not provided further information at this time, such as the cause of death.
Gross had not been seen or heard from for seven days after she left her home in Riverdale, officials report.
Davane’s aunt, Krista Gross, said she was last seen the day after Halloween in the morning at 1 p.m. 6 in the morning and was last heard from around 6 p.m. 9. according to Krista.
“We are not stopping,”
Krista said Davane was at her grandparents’ house on Halloween night and was talking to her grandfather when her aunt left the house. Later that evening, Davane allegedly went to his stepmother’s house around 6 p.m. 3 in the morning
Around. 6 Krista said Davane told her family she was going back to her grandparents’ house. When she did not return, Krista called her around noon. 8 to ask where she was, as Davane explained she went to the waterfront.
Krista said Davane’s step-sister FaceTime called her around 6 p.m. 9 and saw that she was at the Shedd Aquarium. Davane had not been seen since.
“Between there and now we do not know,” Krista said. “This is so unlike her. One thing Davane does all the time – she stays in touch with her older brother. She has not contacted, it is nothing. We have not heard anything.”
Krista explaiend Davane has worked, tried to find a job and decided on further schooling. Davane played basketball for St. Louis. Joes and wants to become a WNBA player, according to her aunt.
Cheneae Jones, Davane’s cousin, asked for help from someone, saying they are a “very close-knit family,” and this has already been a “hard year.”
“It’s been a full seven days,” Jones said. “Glimpses of hope begin to wane.”
According to a flyer, Davane is five feet tall and weighs 130 pounds. Her hair is black and her eyes are brown. She was last seen in a black hoodie and black pants.
