Last week, MDS and I agreed on all six games. We have four of them right. Resuming the spread, MDS went 3-3. I was a pathetic 2-2.
This week we disagree on one of the four games. For the only three, we have the same winner, both straight up and against the spread.
Check out all the choices below and call in with your own in the comments.
Aries (+6.5) at Packers
MDS takes: Aaron Rodgers plays his best football and the Rams will go with either an injured Jared Goff or an injured John Wolford. There are other lenses from which one can see this game and some of them favor rams, namely that rams have the superior defense. But even though the defense is playing well against Rodgers, I think in the end Rodgers and Davante Adams are making enough big plays to win this game.
MDS’s choice: Packers 30, Aries 20.
Florio takes: Packers need to run back Aaron Jones to get a solid performance as he moves toward free agency. They also need quarterback Aaron Rodgers to find slices and curls that the ball can be thrown at receiver Davante Adams, even though he gets the blanket from Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey. On defense, Green Bay have to sell to stop the race and force rams to hit them by throwing the ball through the cold Lambeau air.
Florio’s choice: Packers 31, rams 21.
Ravens (+2.5) by Bills
MDS takes: Over the last few weeks, the Bills may be playing better than any team in the NFL. The Ravens are also playing good football at the right time, but I do not think I will pick anyone to go to Buffalo and beat the Bills right now.
MDS’s choice: Bills 27, Ravens 20.
Florio takes: The Ravens remain the hottest team in the NFL, and the Bills had an almost miss against the Colts. Baltimore can run the ball very well and the bills do not. That can be the difference, especially if it’s snowing.
Florio’s choice: Ravens 24, bills 21.
Browns (+10) at Chiefs
MDS takes: The Browns poured it in early and never looked back against the Steelers, but the well-rested Chiefs are simply the better team. Patrick Mahomes overplays Baker Mayfield and I expect the Chiefs to get at least one big game on special teams.
MDS’s choice: Chiefs 35, Browns 21.
Florio takes: The best-case for the Browns includes lowering things, shortening the game and limiting the number of possessions that Kansas City will have. Even then, can Cleveland surpass a Kansas City team that always finds a way? It is doubtful.
Florio’s choice: Chiefs 35, Browns 24.
Buccaneers (+3) at Saints
MDS takes: Tom Brady vs. Drew Brees was supposed to be an NFL playoff classic, and it’s a game that could easily go both ways. The Saints are favored and won both meetings in the regular season easily, but I just have a feeling the Bucs top at the right time, while the Saints slow down as the season continues.
MDS’s choice: Buccaneers 28, Saints 27.
Florio takes: Throw the first two installments in this series; Buccaneers have improved dramatically since week 1 and week nine. Tom Brady has played 17 games with his new team and the offense reaches its peak. In what will likely be the last career game for Drew Brees, it will likely be another heartbreaking exit from the Holy See’s post season.
Florio’s choice: Buccaneers 24, Saints 23.
