Clayton, NC – Clayton police said a pedestrian was hit and killed as he tried to cross US Highway 70 on Friday night.
Lieutenant Drew Medlin confirmed that the crash happened just before noon. 20 Officials said the man, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that hit the man remained at the scene of the accident, WRALs Rosalia Fodera reported.
Eastbound lanes of US Hwy. 70 were closed and an investigation was underway Friday night. Officers remained on the scene and collected evidence.
