- Following reports earlier this week, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei confirmed he was leaving the company.
- Pei was not specific to what he plans to do next.
On Friday, Carl Pei confirmed that he is leaving the company he helped find. “After almost 7 years at OnePlus, I have made the difficult decision to say goodbye,” he wrote in a post on OnePlus community forums.
Reports that Pei had left OnePlus began circulating online earlier this week after what appeared to be internal documents from the company showing that Pei was no longer part of the management team went on Reddit. At the time, the only thing OnePlus offered was a “no comment.”

In recent years, there have been reports that there was tension between Pei and OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, but you can not see that in the letter. “I am eternally grateful to Pete for taking a chance on this child without a college degree without anything other than his dream,” he said. “Trust, mentorship and camaraderie will never be forgotten. Thank you for the opportunity of a lifetime. ”
According to one TechCrunch report Pei plans to start its own venture and is currently raising capital. However, in his farewell post, he does not give too much of what he plans to do next time. “I look forward to taking some time to decompress and catch up with my family and friends. And then follow my heart to the next, ”he writes. So there you have it, it’s the end of an era at OnePlus. We will probably learn what’s next for Pei in the coming months.
