Nvidia launches its latency-reducing technology, Reflex, to anyone who has an Nvidia graphics card and plays the PC version of Overwatch. The company tested the function in Overwatch ‘s PTR servers in March, but now Reflex is live and theoretically available for competitive play. Nvidia claims that Reflex reduces the time between pulling the shutter button Overwatch and the game reproduces the shot by as much as 50 percent, and now you can easily test it.
Latency can be caused by a number of things (Internet speed can be a major factor in competitive gaming), but Reflex is focused on reducing latency caused by computer hardware. The longer the delay between a click and the game responds, the better the chance is no matter what the player responded to already out of the picture. In this case, Nvidia̵
I can not say how well the feature can actually work without trying it, but if one is to believe Nvidia’s video demonstration, it can only be seen by a professional player who can feel the microsecond difference in latency. However, Nvidia suggests that the small difference in some cases can change the result drastically. According to Nvidia’s demo, activating Reflex can be the difference between a critical hit and a complete lack.
Your mileage may vary, but if you have an Nvidia graphics card – Reflex works on cards as old as the GTX 900 series – and a G-Sync monitor, you should be able to try the low latency feature. Enabling Reflex requires the latest version of Nvidia’s drivers and an updated copy of the game you want to use it in. The company has also partnered to create specific monitors that include a Reflex Latency Analyzer feature.
