EXCLUSIVE UPDATED: This comes as a choker too Stumptown fans. The breakout series starring Cobie Smulders, which was renewed for another season in May, does not go ahead with the season 2 order. The studio behind the show, ABC Signature, is planning to buy it and find a new home for it, I hear.
Stumptown was part of the ABC schedule for fall 2020, announced in June, and was scheduled to return by Wednesday at 7 p.m. 22.00, the occupied last season. According to sources, a timing issue related to the production start delay made it impossible for the show to be ready for fall launch when the network was in need of planning for the 2020-21 season. As a result, the network decided not to go ahead with the previously ordered new season.

The series, as a movie in Los Angeles, had not started production and did not have a fixed start date when the call not to go with season 2 was made this week. I hear the coronavirus pandemic played a significant role in the delay, but it was also related to the extra time needed to get the scripts in good shape after the series changed creative direction with a showrunner change at the end of the season 1. One of the most anticipated new series last season, Stumptown quickly developed a strong fan and followed up as a powerhouse in digital and delayed viewing.
Based on a graphic novel series by veteran Dex Parios, it plays Cobie Smulders, Jake Johnson, Tantoo Cardinal, Cole Sibus, Adrian Martinez, with Camryn Manheim and Michael Ealy. Created and executed produced by Jason Richman, David Bernad, Ruben Fleischer, Greg Rucka, Matthew Southworth and Justin Greenwood are producers.
