No season 2 of the Cobie Smulders series – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE UPDATED: This comes as a choker too Stumptown fans. The breakout series starring Cobie Smulders, which was renewed for another season in May, does not go ahead with the season 2 order. The studio behind the show, ABC Signature, is planning to buy it and find a new home for it, I hear.

Stumptown was part of the ABC schedule for fall 2020, announced in June, and was scheduled to return by Wednesday at 7 p.m. 22.00, the occupied last season. According to sources, a timing issue related to the production start delay made it impossible for the show to be ready for fall launch when the network was in need of planning for the 2020-21 season. As a result, the network decided not to go ahead with the previously ordered new season.

‘United We Fall’ canceled by ABC after one season

The series, as a movie in Los Angeles, had not started production and did not have a fixed start date when the call not to go with season 2 was made this week. I hear the coronavirus pandemic played a significant role in the delay, but it was also related to the extra time needed to get the scripts in good shape after the series changed creative direction with a showrunner change at the end of the season 1. I hear as a result, season 2 of Stumptown would not have been ready until April, which is the end of the broadcast season, which led to the cancellation. The crew and crew were just notified of the decision this afternoon, I hear

The well-received action drama medium is the latest series that has been damaged by COVID-related production shutdowns, which encrypted schedules and led to networks reversing pickup decisions. These include Community and I’m not OK with this at Netflix and Pardon by TBS.

As an advanced drama, Stumptown was already among the most expensive second-year TV series with scripts. In addition, with detailed stunts, extensive placement shots and romance, Stumptown is the type of series most affected by COVID-related constraints, limiting the kind of scenes the show can perform and leading to significant budget increases.

One of the most anticipated new series last season, Stumptown quickly developed a strong fan and followed up as a powerhouse in digital and delayed viewing.

Based on a graphic novel series by veteran Dex Parios, it plays Cobie Smulders, Jake Johnson, Tantoo Cardinal, Cole Sibus, Adrian Martinez, with Camryn Manheim and Michael Ealy. Created and executed produced by Jason Richman, David Bernad, Ruben Fleischer, Greg Rucka, Matthew Southworth and Justin Greenwood are producers.
