The Nintendo Switch has officially set a new, incredibly impressive sales record. According to data from the NPD Group, which was just released last week, Nintendo’s latest and largest console was once again the best-selling console in the United States. Thanks to the latest figures, this means that it has officially been the best-selling console in the United States for the past 22 months and has set a new record.
Previously, the record was held by the Xbox 360. It was the best-selling console for 21 months in total from August 2011 to April 2013. While this little treat was not originally picked up and promoted by the NPD group itself, NPD Group video game industry analyst Mat Piscatella confirmed just as much after it started making the rounds online.
Guess I should have caught this. https://t.co/e78VB10awu

That said, there’s a high probability that the Nintendo Switch won’t actually continue this hot streak much longer – if at all – thanks to both PlayStation and Xbox releasing their next-generation consoles in November. PlayStation 5 is slated for release on November 12 in the US, and both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will be released on November 10. It seems reasonable to assume that these will occupy a significant share of the market share in the coming months.
Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite, the two official models of the console, are currently available wherever such items are sold, provided you can find one of them in stock. Rumors and reports continue about a new Nintendo Switch model tentatively released next year. You can check out our entire previous coverage of Nintendo right here.
