NFL Draft 2019: Sports Illustrated Gives Buffalo Bills a Selection of Ed Oliver a C Class

Brandon Beane constantly said that Buffalo Bills would choose the best player available with the ninth overall election in 2019 NFL Draft. When the ninth pick rolled around, Ed Oliver was clearly the best player available and Beane turned out to be a man of his words by choosing Houston defensive tackle.

Most of the accounts were picked a slam dunk for the bills.

CBS Sports & Adam Schein called the election "an absolute steal" and Nora Princiotti of Boston Globe had the night in the queue when she said, "Ed Oliver is such a heist of 9 CBS Sports thought the bills also made a good choice and gave the bills an A class.

While many national analysts and media members praised the transition, Sports Illustrated Andy Benoit team thought could have used the election to address more pressing needs.

The SI.com author gave the move a C class. Here's what he said.

It was probably that the bills saw this as a point of value. And after signing Star Lotulelei for big money in the free agency last year, to pair with the 201

8 third-wheeler Harrison Phillips and gifted (but mercurial) ex-Dolphin Jordan Phillips, they didn't have a brilliant need for defensive tackle. But outside they badly need a rand rusher as 2016 first rounder Shaq Lawson is not the guy and Jerry Hughes could be in his last year with the club. That said, you can make room for a dynamic hole penetration. Oliver is dependent on speed and elusiveness in limited areas, which is a unique style. However, given that he has had an up-and-down 2018 season, and Buffalo doesn't have to have a defensive tackle, it's generally a high-risk, high-reward choice for a team looking to add talent in multiple places.

While Benoit mentioned Buffalo's top three defensive tackles before the addition of Oliver, he failed to mention that Jordan Phillips is only under contract for a season and that none of the three players have the interior passes rushing ability that Oliver brings to the table.
