Earlier today during Sony's State of Play program, a new trailer was shown for Mortal Kombat 11. Jax, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao were revealed as playable characters.
Notably, we also see Kitana in the trailer. Interestingly, the State of Play Narrator only confirmed that Jax, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao were newly revealed fighters for Mortal Kombat 1
"It's official, series veterans Jax, Kung Lao and, Liu Kang are joining the ever growing Mortal Kombat 11 lineup, "said the State of Play narrator. "And stay tuned, NetherRealm is promising more updates before launch on April 23rd."
The focus of this reveal was actually on the story. In multiple scenes, we see past versions of fighters confronting their future selves. For example, Liu Kang and Kung Lao have become revenants on the side of the Netherrealm. The "good versions" of the Shaolin Monks come from the past and will fight against their evil versions in the story.
Although Johnny Cage and Jax are good guys in the current timeline;
Of course, other fights also break out. Liu Kang and Kung Lao have a great deal of difficulty dealing with geras thanks to his time manipulation abilities.
