New AirPods; AirPods Studio delayed; possible new HomePod

It would be no surprise to hear that Apple is planning to launch new AirPods next year, and a new report today has a few alleged details.

This suggests that new entry-level AirPods will look like the current AirPods Pro …

New AirPods

Bloomberg has the report.

The Cupertino, California-based technology giant is working on two new models: the third-generation entry-level AirPods and the second version of the AirPods Pro earbuds, according to people familiar with the plans […]

The design of the updated AirPods at the entry level is similar to the current AirPods Pro and gets a shorter stem and replaceable earplugs. Apple is also looking to improve battery life. However, this model will not have advanced AirPods Pro features such as noise reduction, said the people who asked not to be identified and discussed private matters.

For the new AirPods Pro, Apple aims to make the earbuds more compact by removing the short stem that currently protrudes from the bottom. A design in test has a more rounded shape that fills more of the user̵

7;s ear – similar to the latest designs from Samsung, Amazon and Google.

It warns that nothing is yet guaranteed.

Integrating noise reduction, wireless antennas and microphones into a smaller AirPods Pro enclosure has proven to be a challenge during development, which could result in a less ambitious design when the product is completed, people said.

Apple currently offers a choice of three models: AirPods for $ 159, AirPods with wireless charging case for $ 199 and AirPods Pro for $ 249.

AirPods Studio over-earphones

The long-rumored AirPods Studio over-earphones are said to be delayed by a headband issue and some design changes.

The headphones were supposed to go into production weeks ago, but it was pushed back due to headband issues, said a person familiar with the matter. This part was considered tight in some tests.

The company originally wanted to include large touch pads on the sides of the headphones, but reduced the size of these panels. Apple has also scaled some of the interchangeable features in the headphones that were characteristic of the original concept. The latest version of the product probably lacks a replaceable headband, but may still include replaceable ear pads.

Possible new HomePod

The report also says that Apple is considering a third HomePod model.

Apple has also internally weighed a new HomePod that sits in size, price and sound quality between the original $ 299 HomePod and $ 99 HomePod mini. It is unclear whether Apple will eventually launch that product or just reduce the price of the advanced version further.

Apple announced the HomePod mini during its October event. This is a much less sophisticated speaker than the full-size version, but will likely prove popular with those looking for an affordable multi-room setup. You can see here how it compares.
