Nebraska Sonic Drive-In Shooting leaves 2 dead and 2 injured

Two people were killed and two others injured in a shooting Saturday night at a Nebraska Sonic Drive-In, authorities said.

Officers from the Bellevue Police Department were called to the restaurant, approximately 9 miles from Omaha, Neb., Around noon. 21:23 about a possible bomb inside a moving truck in the parking lot, police said.

The bomb squad was dispatched, said Lieutenant Andy Jashinske of the Bellevue Police Department at a news conference.

He said there was a truck “and maybe some fireworks or some type of equipment in it”

; in the restaurant parking lot. “We are still trying to figure this out,” he said.

A minute later, the call was updated to include a shooting. Officers found four people with gunshot wounds, police said.

Two people were transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center and two others were pronounced dead at the scene.

Information on the identities, age and circumstances of the victims was not provided by the police.

One suspect, Roberto Carlos Silva, 23, was quickly taken into custody, police said. He was charged with first-degree murder and first-degree arson.

In a statement, a spokesman for Sonic Drive-In said the company was “stunned and saddened by what happened” and that the franchisee was working with authorities.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the franchisee and the families and friends affected by this terrible tragedy,” the spokesman said.
