Nadal advises Kyrgios to play all the matches he did today | TENNIS.com

Rafael Nadal says Nick Kyrgios has the talent to win Grand Slams, but must show passion and consistent efforts to do so.

Nadal defeated Kyrgios in four exciting sets during their second round meeting at Wimbledon and held a more even level during a tense and sometimes tetchy meeting.

After the match, Nr. 3-seed Kyrgio's game much like he used to.

"As I said many times, he is a very top talented player," Nadal said. "But there are many important things to do to become a master."

Kyrgios acknowledges that he is "not the most professional guy" and says: "At the moment I do not think I can fight for a Grand Slam."

Nadal stressed that engagement is important to success. "Without really love this game so much, it's hard to achieve important things."

While Kyrgios tends to do his best to the best players, he has shown lack of motivation, sometimes against other opponents.

Nadal pointed to Kyrgyz's erratic five-seat blast against Jordan Thompson in the previous round and said these were the kind of battles he has to win regularly to get further into tournaments and fight for titles.

"Of course, with his talent and with his servant, he can win a Grand Slam. The talent to do so," he said. "Is it true that things can be quite different for him if he wants to play all the matches in the same way he tries today."

"But if you see the first round against Jordan Thompson, he could win the battle, but the intensity of the court, the way he played, on which he was focused, was different than today.

" He likes to play these kinds of battles. But to win important things, you don't have to play against the top players you have to play against other players that they are so good. You must win [those] matches. "

Some of Kyrgio's tactics during the fight – complaining about how long Nadal took between points serving servants, argued with the referee – seemed to disturb Nadal, especially when Kyrgio hit him having a ball online.

Nadal insisted on the fact that he was not angry, but said that Kyrgios should abstain from such behavior.

"Honestly, it's about being in a game that this sports story is about respect and about playing fair all the time, "he said." I'm not saying Nick does these things to interfere with the opponent, but it's true that sometimes he's dangerous. When he hits the ball like this, it's dangerous. Is not dangerous to me, is dangerous to a line judge, dangerous to a crowd.

"It's not about me being angry with him. It's about playing a game of tennis."

Kyrgios, who has been in the top 15, is No. 43 in the rankings.
