Protesters in the Moroccan capital Rabat waved Palestinian flags on Friday, dismissing the deal as “treason” and shouting “Palestine is not for sale.”
Palestinians see the pacts as a stab in the back from their Arabs in the Gulf and a betrayal of their cause for a Palestinian state. The agreements between Israel and Bahrain are condemned by many throughout the Arab world.
The protesters in Rabat also burned a scornful Israeli flag. Dozens of police officers monitored the site from a distance.
Organizers interrupted occasionally to encourage participants to wear masks and respect the rules of social distance.
“The normalization agreements are an attack on the Palestinian people and their cause,”
“We urge the Moroccan government not to follow suit and we urge it not to surrender to the Zionist and imperialist pressures like other Arab countries,” said Amine, former president of the Moroccan Human Rights Group and one of the protesters. .
Last month, Moroccan Prime Minister Saad Eddine El Othmani said the kingdom rejects any normalization with Israel.
“The Moroccan monarch, the government and the people will always defend the rights of the Palestinian people and the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” he told a meeting of his Islamist Justice and Development Party (PJD).
