An enormous asteroid – so great it has its own moon – is heading towards the ground, but scientists are convinced that it will be with plenty of room left over.

Known as 1999 KW4 (it was discovered in 1999), the asteroid comes closest to our planet on Saturday, and by "closest" is the European Space Agency means 3,219,961 miles.

What makes this particular asteroid special is that it is a double or binary, "because there are two asteroids that are heavily tied together," CNN reported, the largest of the two being just under a mile in diameter and its compatriot asteroid "moon" is about one third of it.

ESA described the asteroid as "the gray flower at the center of this animation" on its site and also shared a tweet of its results. 1

Lots of telescopes from all over the world will be used as The asteroid passes us by collecting as much information as possible. The rest of us, unfortunately, can't see it with just our eyes.
